Minnie B. Scharnberg, the daughter of Fred and Annie Krebs Jager, was born August 29, 1911 in Hartley, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Hartley, where she received her education, graduating from Hartley High School in 1930. She was baptized on January 1, 1922 at the Trinity Evangelical Church in Hartley. She was confirmed on April 1, 1928 at the Trinity Evangelical Church in Hartley.
Minnie married Arlo Scharnberg on January 12, 1932 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Hartley, where she helped out on the family farm. Minnie was one of the few women who could milk cows by hand and did so while her husband was tending to the other farm work. She was an active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ as well as the Ladies Dorcas Society. Minnie was also a member of the Federated Klio Club in Hartley. She loved to play bridge and was a member of the Cousin's Card Club for over 60 years.
Mrs. Scharnberg passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the age of 95 years and 8 months. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlo in 1977; two brothers: Otto and Elmer Jager; two sisters: Elsie Baumeister and Emma Paulson and an infant son, Gary Lee.
She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Tesch and her husband, Robert of Storm Lake, IA; a son, Jerry Scharnberg and his wife, Sandra of Hartley, IA; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Eldo Scharnberg of Spencer; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
