Bert LaBrant Dies Suddenly
PASSED AWAY AT THIS HOME FOLLOWING STROKE OF APOPLEXY
38 YEARS IN THIS COUNTY

Father Coming Here From California; Funeral Arrangements Are Not Yet Made

A. B. LaBrant, best known to a wide acquaintance in and around Spencer as Bert LaBrant, died quite suddenly at his home, 409 West First street, Monday afternoon, April 11, following a stroke of apoplexy.

Mr. LaBrant had been in poor health since last fall, but had kept at his work of driving a truck for the Manhattan Oil Company. He was out with the truck Monday when he was seized with bad pains in the chest. He managed to reach his home, but there he collapsed. Mrs. LaBrant made him as comfortable as she could and summoned Dr.
Colester. Mr. LaBrant lived only thirty minutes.

L.E. LaBrant, father of Bert, who has been spending the winter in California, was notified by telegram of his son's death, and wired back that he and Mrs. LaBrant would leave Long Beach for Spencer immediately. Mrs. Bert LaBrant said funeral arrangements would not be made until their arrival here the latter part of this week.

He will be buried in Riverside cemetery here.

Bert LaBrant was born at Sandwich, Illinois, fifty-two years ago, the 19th of this coming May. When Bert was fourteen years old the family moved to this county and went to live on a farm three and a half miles south of Spencer. Bert worked on his father's farm until he was twenty-one and then went to farming for himself nearby. He farmed various places in the vicinity of Spencer until fifteen or sixteen years ago, when he moved into this city.

He was a workman for the city for a time, and then ran a dray line for a number of years. He went to work for the Manhattan Oil Company two years ago.

Mr. LaBrant married twice. By his first wife, who was Miss Cora Kindlespire of Spencer, he had three
sons, Simon and Merle of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Roscoe, who was in South Dakota at last account. Seven years ago Mr. LaBrant was married to Mrs. Retta Shaul of Spencer. To them was born, one child, Ruth, who died when nineteen months old. Mrs. LaBrant's daughter, Miss Edna Shaul, is a member of the household.

Other relatives surviving Mr. LaBrant are a half-brother, Roy LaBrant, living south of Spencer; three uncles, of whom one is J. A. LaBrant of Spencer; a cousin, Leslie LaBrant , of Spencer; and an aunt at Sandwich, Illinois.

Mr. LaBrant was a member of the fraternal order of Modern Woodmen.
