Bernard Wesley Galbraith, the son of Wilbur and Elsabeth (Durst) Galbraith, was born the third of nine children November 27, 1913 on the family farm north of Dickens, Iowa. He attended Barlow Country School and graduated from Spencer High School in 1931. He continued to work on the family farm and eagerly sought additional jobs with neighbors and friends.

On February 27, 1940, Bernard married Norma Scott, also of rural Dickens, and they began their own farming operation 2 miles north of Dickens, which they continued until retiring in 1978. Bud and Norma were long time members of the Dickens Methodist Church. They lived their last 28 years together on Lake Minnewashta near Arnolds Park. Bernard loved his family, fishing, hunting, baseball, farming, working for the ASCS office, the Clay County Fair, and all kinds of machinery (especially tractors). He could fix anything! He also enjoyed going to musical and theatrical performances with his wife. Above all, Bud and Norma loved attending all the activities of their children and grandchildren.

Bernard passed away on Monday, September 18, 2006, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Bernard Rodney. He is survived by his wife Norma and four children: Sharyl Potratz (Dave) of Spencer, IA; Kevin Galbraith (Diana) of Paoli, PA, Nicky Berge (Don) of Clear Lake, IA, Stanley Galbraith (Gail) of Fort Dodge, IA; 8 grandchildren: Tamara Summers, Bradley Lynch, Rodney Potratz, Shannon Berge, Kendra Holtkamp, Kevin Galbraith, Nicky Keller, Aaron Galbraith; and 10 great grandchildren.
