Funeral services were conducted on March 11, 1925, for D.W. Evans at the Baptist church at Webb. Rev. L.L. Smith conducted the services and interment was made in the Linn Grove cemetery.
For nearly two years Mr. Evans had been afflicted with an incurable brain disease and he had been bedfast since August in 1923. In September of the same year he was taken to Iowa City where he remained eleven weeks under special treatment but received no benefit. Little over a year ago he lost his eye sight and was blind and helpless until death released him on March 9, 1925, being at the time 51 years, 11 months and 17 days old.
Daniel Webster Evans was born March 22, 1873, in Buena Vista county, near Linn Grove, Iowa. In that immediate neighborhood he grew up and on March 15, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Cynthy Pelly. To this union were born six children, five of whom, together with Mrs. Evans, survive him. The children are Mrs. S.J. Mills of Greenville, Arthur Evans of Gillett Grove, Thomas Evans of Linn Grove, and Clarence and Verne Evans, still at home with their mother. One boy, Glen, died on January 4, 1912, at the age of seventeen months.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Evans lived near Linn Grove until 1912. There they remained until 1919 when they moved to the farm three and a half miles northwest of Webb where they were living at the time of Mr. Evans' death.
Mr. Evans was a life long christian, having united with the old pioneer Baptist church of Linn Grove in his early manhood and belonging to the Baptist church in Webb at the time of his death.
He was a good husband, a kind father, and a generous helpful neighbor, respected wherever known for his uprightness and integrity of character.
Besides his immediate family he leaves one brother, J.T. Evans, of Tampa, Florida, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Morris and Mrs. Hannah Morris, of Linn Grove. In addition there is a large, circle of more distant relatives and a host of friends.
