Mrs. E. J. Scholten, a former Spencer resident, died at one o'clock Monday, March 16, 1925, at the home of her brothers in Gillett Grove township after a long illness. For a number of years she has been a sufferer of cancer of the stomach and last December when she came to visit at the Olson home she was taken sick and was never able to return to her home in Springfield, South Dakota. Just before coming to Spencer she had been in the hospital at Denver.

Christine Olson was born in Sweden and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.P. Olson. She was born on February 4, 1880, and came to Clay county in 1900. On December 31, 1908, she was united in marriage to E. J. Scholten and to this union were born three children, John Evert, age 14 years, Robert LeRoy, age 8 years, and Elizabeth Jeanette, age 6 years.

For a time she lived in Spencer, working at the Greeves telephone office. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Rebekah lodge.
Besides her father, husband and children she is survived by six brothers and one sister. They are August, John, Oscar, Carl E., Ole P. and Aileen. Oscar Olson lives here in Spencer and Victor, August and Aileen are in Sweden. Her father is also in Sweden.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 8, at Olson Brothers' home. Rev. A.E. Gustafson conducted the services and interment was made in Liberty cemetery.
