Mrs. Benjamin Pitcher Passed Away Last Monday
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD THURSDAY

Mrs. Benjamin Pitcher, for many years a resident of this city and vicinity, passed away Monday, Feb. 28. Just one week previous she suffered a stroke of paralysis and despite heroic medical assistance and loving care, the affliction could not be conquered. Mrs. Pitcher was one of those home loving women whose first thoughts are always for the loved ones of the family circle, and while she did this nobly, she also found time to enjoy the social features of our city and give of her best to the Christian deeds and thoughts. The heritage left the husband and children is one of the sweetest ever given; the memory of a devoted wife and kind, loving parent. Deceased was a member of the Spencer Woman's Club, Eastern Star and Relief Corps. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon Rev. O. Thrush, pastor of the Congregational church, of which she had been a consistent member. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery and the large concourse attending the obsequies gave evidence of the high esteem in which she was held.

Mary W. Barnard was born in Worthington, Massachusetts, Sept.11, 1841. At the age of ten she moved with her parents to Chicago, later to Durant, Illinois, and from thence to Spring Grove, Wisconsin, where, on November 29, 1857, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Pitcher. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living: John, of Miiford, Mrs. Charles Claypool, of Fort Dodge and Homer, Benjamin Jr., Mrs. George Walker and Miss Belle, of this city.

In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Pitcher became residents of Clay county in Meadow township where they remained for a year after which they located in Dickinson county. Here they lived until 1894 when they moved to Spencer.
