Mrs V. D. Wilson, a resident of Spencer for about thirty-five years, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 1925 at the Presbyterian Hospital Chicago, Illinois. At the time of her death she was sixty-eight years old.
For four years Mrs. Wilson has been a patient sufferer. Two years ago she entered the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago for treatment. She received only temporary relief. Growing worse in recent months she re-entered the same hospital and on March 2 underwent an operation, which seemed to be successful. But on March 17, Tuesday, while sitting in her chair, and expecting to be able to come home within a short time, she was suddenly stricken and passed to the Heavenly home. Her death coming has unexpectedly is a great shock to her loved ones and to her many friends who were earnestly expecting her early return home in greatly improved health. But such are the ways of an all wise Providence that we know not what a day may bring forth.
Elizabeth Richmond was born on June 6, 1857, in Lafayette county, Wisconsin. Her parents were people of English decent and have passed on to their reward some years since.
She grew to womanhood in Wisconsin, attending the public school from which she received her education. She was united in marriage on November 28 in the year 1878 to Van D. Wilson. To this union four children were born, Maude M., now Mrs. Frank Gloyd, George Glen, Clara Iona and Ida Viola, Iona and Ida having proceeded their mother in death. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson began their married life on a farm in southern Wisconsin, where they lived for about 13 years. Coming to Spencer they purchased a farm south of town where they made their home for some seventeen years. In later years they have lived in the north part of Spencer and were making this their home at the time of Mrs. Wilson's death.
Mrs. Wilson united with the Methodist Episcopal church more than thirty years ago and remained a faithful member throughout her lifetime. Just before her operation she expressed herself as being at peace with God and man. She was good woman and was much beloved by a wide circle of friends.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, her daughter and son, and two grandchildren, Wilson and Lois Gloyd. Her eldest grandson, Leslie, of whom she was also very fond, passed away November 27, 1917. She is also survived by one brother, S. W. Richmond of Springfield, South Dakota, and one sister, Martha Mabcock, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, and one half brother, W.C. Thomas, of Springfield, South Dakota, besides a host of other relatives and intimate friends.
"Sleep on dear one and take thy rest. We loved thee well, but Jesus loved thee best."
The remains were returned from Chicago on Thursday evening and funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. Thomas B. Collins, was assisted by Dr. O. M. Bond of Storm Lake.
