Elliott Wetherbee was born in Ripley county, Indiana, on April 18, 1843, and died at his home in Spencer on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1913, at 1:30 p.m. He came to Fayette county, Iowa, in 1857. Upon the outbreak of the rebellion he enlisted in the 47th Iowa Infantry, and served his country well and faithfully until the close of the war. In 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Harris. To this union three children were born, only one of whom, Mrs. Shaw, of Spencer, is living.

He came to Clay county in the spring of 1881 and resided on a farm south of Spencer until about ten years ago when on account of failing health he moved to Spencer and has since made his home in this city.

The funeral was held from the home on West Second street on Thursday last, the Rev. C.V. Pence officiating. The burial was at Riverside cemetery. The ritualistic ceremony of the G.A.R. was observed, the old soldiers attending in a body.

He was a very quiet and unassuming man and will be greatly missed by his friends and associates.
