Mrs. Karen Larson

Karen Larson, aged a little more than seventy-seven years, of age and a resident of Spencer for the past thirteen years and of Clay county for a much longer period of time, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Witt on Bender avenue. Mrs. Larson had been ill only a week, being taken with an attack of tonsllitis. Her condition was not considered at all serious until the last day or two of her illness and the news of her death will come as a great shock to her many friends.

Karen Rasmussen was born in Denmark, September 19, 1844, and came to America when still a young girl.

On September 5, 1869, she became the wife of Robert Larson, the marriage taking place in Chicago. They continued to make their home in that city for a short time and then came west to begin the life of the western pioneers on an Iowa farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Larson homesteaded a farm in Meadow township and here their family of boys and girls were born and reared to young manhood and womanhood. The following children survive the mother, Mr. Larson having died nine years ago in Spencer; Ranold of Oregon City, Oregon; William of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. D.H. Owen and Louis Larson of north of Spencer and Mrs. Peter Witt, Mrs. Earl Harbin and Charles Larson of Spencer. Mrs. Larson was the grandmother of nineteen grandchildren.

When the family of boys and girls were grown, married and settled in homes of their own, Mr. and Mrs. Larson came to Spencer and lived a life of retirement. After the death of Mr. Larson, Mrs. Larson continued to keep the home for a while and later sold it. For the past two years she has made her home with Mrs. Witt. She was a life long member of the Danish Lutheran church and was a quiet, unassuming but thoroughly good woman who will be greatly missed in home and among her friends.

The funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Witt Wednesday afternoon at one-thirty o'clock and from the Danish Lutheran church at two o'clock. The services were in charge of the Rev. Gertsen, pastor of the church. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
