Mrs. Mary M. Wiggins, a resident of Spencer for the past twenty years, died last Thursday morning at 11:30 o'clock at her home on East Sixth street, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 15 days. Death came following a lingering illness of dropsy and complications. She had been in poor health for the past three years but grew steadily worse the last year. She had been bedfast since last fall.
Funeral rites were held last Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the chapel of the Cobb Funeral Home. Rev. W. F. Hurst, pastor of the Christian church was in charge. Burial was made in the Riverside cemetery at Spencer.
Mary M. White was the daughter of George and Jerushia White, and was born in the state of Illinois, April 21, 1848, where she lived for several years and later moved to Dickinson county, where she was married to H. S. Wiggins in 1877.
They continued to live in Dickinson county for several years and then moved to Clay county and lived on a farm near Spencer for three years, later moved to Emmetsburg and made their home there for a year. Mr. Wiggins died at Emmetsburg In 1902. She was also preceded n death by a son.
After her husband's death, Mrs. Wiggins returned to Spencer and had since made her home on East Sixth street.
Mrs. Wiggins is survived by four children, Mrs. V. G. Rose of Spencer, Mrs. Wallace Field of Humboldt, Ia., Jerry Wiggins of Monterey, Minnesota, and Wm. Owen of Mount Vernon, Washington, besides many other relatives and numerous friends.
Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mrs. Wallace Field of Humboldt, Iowa, Mrs. W. Gibson of Fort Dodge and Jerry Wiggins of Monterey, Minnesota.
