Robert Munger, 82, of Algona, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Algona.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, 2000 at First congregational Church, Peterson with the Rev. Charles Hawl officiating.

Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson with the Garry-Roverts-Murphy Schaaf Funeral Home of Algona in charge of arrangements.

Robert B. Munger was born to Warner G. and Geneva Baughman Munger in Clay Township, Clay County. He attended country school in Royal. After his schooling, he worked for farmers in the area and then moved to Spencer and worked for Montgomery Ward Farm Store. He then moved to Carroll and managed the Montgomery Farm Store.

He married Mary J. Lavaileur on May 4, 1941, in Jackson, Minn. The couple moved to Algona in 1945 and managed the Kent Implement Store. He later bought that business and changed the name to Munger Implement and operated it for several years. He then sold cars for May John Motors in Britt and moved to Minnesota and farmed for a couple of years.

In 1951, the couple moved to Algona and Mr. Munger worked for Kent Motors selling cars. He then began working for Pioneer Seed Company for 20 years, retiring in 1979, with the couple remaining in Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife of Algona; three daughters: Debra Axvig of Cando, N.D.; Connie Colwell and her husband, Neal of Santa Ana, Calif.; Judy Stroup and her husband, Richard, of Cary, N.C.; a son, Larry Munger and his wife, Mary Ann, of Maynard; two sisters: Virginia Ganger of Peterson; Shirley Hedlund of Algona; a brother, Donald Munger and his wife, Doris, of Peterson, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
