Nina Merle Johnson Hamrick, 1932-2007

Nina Merle Hamrick, the daughter of Gerald and Nina Ima Rohm Johnson, was born February 17, 1932, in Winner, South Dakota. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer where she received her education at Spencer High School, graduating in 1950.

Merle married Lyle Hamrick on August 24, 1964, in Sherburn, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Grand Tap for several years until their retirement. She was raised as a Lutheran by faith. In 2003, Merle became a baptized member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Sutherland, Iowa. She was a longtime member of the Eagle's Club in Spencer. Merle enjoyed playing Yatzee and listening to the Statler Brothers music.

Merle passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle on October 15, 1989; six sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her stepson, Lyle Hamrick, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Omaha, NE; three stepgrandchildren: Lyle III, Kayla and Amber; one sister, Ruth Chase of Spencer, IA; five step great grandchildren;one brother, Jack Johnson of Everly, IA; other relatives and many friends.
