Charles William Smith was born near Danville, Illinois, July 13, 1870. In the year of 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Ellen Nixon. Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived at Collison, Illinois, for a number of years. In 1903 the family moved to Palo Alto county, Iowa. From there they moved to Clay county, making their home at Spencer. Mr. Smith had been failing in health for a number of years before his death. Last winter he went to the home of one of his sisters in Illinois hoping to regain his health. About three weeks ago it became necessary to remove him to a hospital in Danville, Illinois, where he died on April 24, 1911. He leaves a wife and seven children. Mr. Smith was ever kind and good in his home being loved be all. Although a great sufferer in the last years of his life he was patient through it all. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved family. The body was brought to Spencer last Wednesday for burial. The funeral took place from the Baptist church Thursday, the Rev. J.D. Collins preaching the sermon. The family wishes to extend thanks to the many friends who were so helpful in their time of sorrow.
