Maggie, wife of George A. Austin died at her home in Meadow township, Thursday morning, Jan. 11th, at 7 o'clock, after a painful illness of about two weeks.
The funeral was held at the family residence on Sunday at 1 o'clock, Rev. J.O Thrush, of Spencer, officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Meadow cemetery.
The funeral cortege was the largest ever seen in Clay county, which is a consoling evidence of the high esteem and womanly worth in which the deceased was held by the kind and sympathizing friends and neighbors.
Death is never a welcome visitor in any home, but when it enters the family circle and bears away a kind mother, a true and devoted wife, a loving daughter and a dear sister, it leaves a vacant chair in the home circle that can never be filled by another or forgotten.
Maggie Austin was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Capstick, of Meadow township, and was born Jan. 29, 1863, in Juno county, Wis., was 30 years, 11 months and eighteen days old at the time of her death. She leaves a bereaved husband and two small children, a father and mother, and one brother to mourn her loss. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. The deceased came with her parents when eight years old from Juno county, Wis., and settled in Clay county in the spring of 1871, and consequently was one of the early pioneer settlers of Clay county. She possessed an amiable disposition and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Early in life she took an active part in educational advancement, was for many years engaged in the public schools of Clay county. As a teacher and educator of the young, she had few equals and no superiors. At the age of 25 she bade adieu to the school room and was joined in marriage to George A. Austin, of Meadow. Her memory will ever linger in the bosom of her many friends.
