Jacob Hellmer Heien, the son of John and Reika Hellmers Heien, was born on June 7, 1906, in Danforth, IL. Around the year 1910, the Heien family moved to Greenville, IA, where they engaged in farming. Jacob attended school in Greenville.

On October 15, 1936, Jake married Irene Hargrave in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed near Greenville and moved to a farm near Gillett Grove, IA, in 1941. Jake also worked for the railroad for a year and for the Clay County road dept. In 1944, they moved to a farm south of Dickens. They then moved back to a small farm near Gillett Grove with Jake still farming a portion of the farm south of Dickens. Later they moved to the Sharff farm and lived here until 1961.

In 1961, they moved to Bagdad, AZ, where Jake worked as a mechanic for Cypres until it closed. He then worked for Bagdad Copper Corp. as caretaker of the company house. In 1971, Jake retired and moved back "home" to Iowa, locating at 1204 3rd Ave. W., in Spencer, where they still live today.

On May 10, 1988, Jacob passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harm; 2 sisters : Irene & Helen.

Mr. Heien is survived by his wife, Irene of Spencer; 3 sons & their wives: Gerald & Barbara Sue of O'Neill, NE.; David & Margaret of Spencer, NE.; G. Thomas & Donna of Anchorage, Alaska; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one brother, Mike of Spencer, IA; 4 sisters: Tina Runkle, Tracy Crawford, Elizabeth Curry, all of Spencer; Margaret Johnson of Lake Okoboji, IA, other relatives and friends.

Interment in Dickens cemetery
