Funeral Services for L.L. Atwood, 94, who died Aug. 29 at his home in this city, were conducted Monday,Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. at Grace Methodist Church. Rev. Maurice Jones of Rock Valley preached the funeral sermon. An assisting minister at the rites was Rev. A.L. Semans. Singers were Mrs. Sylvester Kindlespire and D.L. Ginger who, accompanied by Mrs. James Jackson, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden". Interment was in the family room in the mausoleum in Riverside cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roland Chamberlain, Kenneth Chamberlain, Leland Chamberlain, Forrest Logan, Raymond Banks and James Jackson, all great nephews of Mr. Atwood.

Louis Leseter Atwood, the seventh child of ten, born to Ira and Lavina Atwood of Stillman Valley, Ill., on the ninth day of July, 1859 and died at the family home at 323 West Second Street in Spencer on Aug. 29,1953. He was married to Winifred E. Van Patten of Creston,Ill., on March 30,1882. They lived in Illinois until the spring of 1896, when, with their four children, they moved to the farm west of Langdon, which was their home for 14 years. In 1910 they moved to the home at 323 West Second where they lived for 43 years. They were the parents of five children. A daughter, Lois died on her first birthday and the only son at the age of three and one half.

Those surviving are Mrs. Edna Fee and Mrs. Grace Johnson of Spencer and Mrs. Rowena Aldrich of Oak Park,Ill. There are also three grandsons, Col. Francis Fee of Washington, D.C., Major Roger Austin of Houston, Texas and Howard Aldrich of Elmhurst,Ill. Also four great grandsons, Robert Austin of Royal, Kent Austin of Houston,Texas and Robert and Bruce Aldrich of Elmhurst, Illinois.

Interment in Riverside cemetery
