Jeremiah Rosier
Early Sunday morning, Jeremiah Rosier, one of Iowa's earliest pioneers, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. A. Cady, in this city at the age of 87 years and two weeks, after an illness of several weeks duration. When a lad of six years, Mr. Rosier and his mother came to Dubuque from Little Rock, Pa., to join the husband and father who had come west the year before and secured employment in the lead mines at Dubuque. When a lad of 16 he was employed as a mail carrier traveling the pathless forests of Clayton county to supply the widely scattered settlements with their mail.
After his marriage he moved to McGregor, where he made his home for 52 years. Three years ago, at the death of Mrs. Rosier he came to Spencer to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Cady. Mr. Rosier was the father of four children: Mrs. R. Troendle, of Remer, Minnesota, Brs. F.A. Cady, of this city, Frank, also a resident of Spencer and John, who died some ten or twelve years ago at St.Paul.
The remains were taken to McGregor for interment, the funeral services being held at that place at 10 o'clock Tuesday. Mr. Rosier was a man of quiet, unassuming disposition and industrious habits. He claimed a longer residence in the proud state of Iowa than any other living pioneer, a claim which seems to be well founded.
