George Rice passed away at 10:15 a.m. last Monday at his home here, after an illness of four months with dropsy. Deceased was born August 2, 1860, in Blairstown, Benton county. He came to Clay county in 1886, moving to town in 1890. In 1888 he married Tina Shaeffer. To them were born three children, two of whom survive. He was preceded in death by his wife 4 years ago and his daughter Lula about 12 years ago. He leaves two sons - Ed. Of Minneapolis, and George of Marshall, Wis.; two brothers - Hall of Everly and Albert of Blairstown; one sister, Mrs. Elmira Tolger (sic) also of Blairstown; 5 grandchildren and numerous other relatives, as well as many friends. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., with Rev. A. H. Geske of the Lutheran church officiating and interment at Lone Tree cemetery.
