Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 11, for Amanuel A. Johnson who died suddenly in Paulina on Dec. 7.
A short service was conducted at the home on East Tenth street followed by services at two o'clock at Grace Methodist church. Ministers who officiated at the rites were the Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer of the Spencer church, the Rev. Friesen of Friend, Neb., and the Rev. De Neui of Humboldt.
Mrs. Carl Dethlefsen and Mrs. Deane Mills of Greenville, accompanied by Mrs. Dora Peterson, also of Greenville, sang three selections, "Fairest Lord Jesus," "Beyound the Sunset" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." Additional music was furnished by Mrs. E. E. Munger, Jr.
Pall bearers were Thoral and Dale All, Thorvald and Russell Haaland and John Johnson, nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, and Russell David of Paulina. Internment was in the North Lawn cemetery under the direction of the Cobb-Warner Funeral home.
Obituary
Amanuel A. Johnson, familiarly known as "Sig," was born Dec. 4, 1892 and died Dec. 7, 1945. At the time of his death he was 53 years of age. He was born in Chicago, Ill.
On Sept. 3, 1913, he was married to Theresa Haaland. They have an adopted daughter.
In 1915 he and his wife came to northwest Iowa, living for some time on a farm near Sioux Rapids. Later they moved to Greenville and in 1944 moved to the present home in Spencer.
Mr. Johnson was a contractor and builder.
Besides his wife he is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Doris Sundeen of Des Moines, a grandson, David Alan Sundeen, two brothers, Martin Johnson of Chicago and Lawrence Johnson of Longview, Wash., and by two sisters, Agnes and Gertrude Johnson, both of Chicago.
