Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa.Relatives and friends were saddened to hear of the death of Melvin Hilterbrand. He was the son of Mathias and Nancy Hilterbrand and was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, March 30, 1880, departing this life in Arkansas, March 22, 1933, being nearly 53 years of age.
When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Prairie Grove, Iowa, later to Osceola, where he met Miss Blanch Saddoris and was married in 1904. They moved to Nebraska.
Six children were born to this union; Gerald, Grace, Alice, Nellie, Paul and Lois. All are married but Nellie and Paul and all were with him when he passed away. His good wife passed away December 23, 1918, in Nebraska and was buried there, leaving a father with six children to care for. He lived there with his children till about six years ago, when he moved to Arkansas where he passed away.
In 1915 he learned to love his Master. He was a loving husband, father and brother and a good neighbor, always kind to everyone. He took sick four years ago and bore his suffering well. All was done for him that loving hands could do. He said he was ready to go, so God called him home. He will be greatly missed by all his loved ones.
Three brothers, Albert, George and Henry passed away some years ago, his father and mother passed away 14 years ago, a sister Mary Clevenger 6 years ago, and a brother Fred a year ago last January.
Besides his children mentioned above, he leaves six grandchildren, three sisters, May Prescott of Cherokee, Iowa; Barbara King of Powell, Mo.; Myrtle Osgood of Osceola; two brothers, John of Yelm, Washington, and Oliver of Osceola, and several other relatives and friends who mourn his going.
Burial took place near Joplin Missouri on March 25.
