Osceola, IowaWilliam Henry Trumbo, son of John and Sophia McGuire Trumbo, was born in Allen county, Indiana, on February 15, 1854 and died at his home near Murray, Iowa on November 26, 1927 at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Minnie M. Halloway on January 27, 1885. Mrs. Trumbo preceded him in death on June 5, 1937. He is survived by six children, Ruby of Chicago, Illinois, Rolla of St. Louis, Mo., Charles of Murray, Harmon of Chariton, Grace of Decatur, Ill., and Glenn of Chicago. He also leaves four grandchildren, Charlene, Robert and Ronald of Chariton, and Bill of St. Louis.
Mr. Trumbo was one of eight children, all of whom have preceded him in death except one brother, John M., of Osceola.
At the age of six weeks, Mr. Trumbo with his parents migrated in a covered wagon to Clarke county, Iowa, where they homesteaded a farm near Medora. Practically his entire life has been spent in Clarke and Warren counties.
From his rugged pioneer life, Mr. Trumbo developed a strict code of honesty, a keen sense of humor, and a love of children, which were characteristic of a life that was extremely active until a few days before his death. These traits were as fundamental as his interest in his family and his community. Because of his keep interest in and close association with the young people in and around Indianola, he was known as “Dad” to them all.
After funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church of Murray on Monday, November 29 at 10 a.m., he was laid to rest beside his wife in the Bethel Chapel cemetery.
