Mary Bonham Miler was born in Lawrence county, Ohio, March 11, 1823, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emeline Hart, who lives near Jamison, Dec. 8, 1906, aged 83 years, 8 months and 27 days.

She lived with her parents in Ohio until she grew to womanhood. They then removed to Scioto county, Ohio, where she was married to James Miler Nov. 15, 1842. This union was a happy one and was only broken by his death in September, 1864.

Mrs. Miler was the mother of eight children; two, Freland and Filora, preceded the mother to the better land. The remaining children are Mrs. Emeline Hart of Jamison, Mrs. Milton Thompson of Osceola, James V. of Jamison, Oliver W. of Afton, Mrs. Elizabeth Goin and Frank M of Talmage, all of whom were present at the funeral.

The deceased with her husband lived in Ohio until 1855, when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Liberty township, less than three miles from where she was living at the time of her death.

At the age of 15 years, she gave her heart to her Lord and united with the Baptist church. After her removal to Iowa, she united with the Church of Christ at Union chapel. About two years ago she moved her membership to Osceola at which place she held membership until her death.

During this long discipleship she was ever faithful, loving her Lord tenderly and serving the church faithfully. She would often quote, “Do not forget the assembling of yourselves together on the first day of the week, and when health permitted she was in her place in the house of the Lord. She was always faithful in visiting and helping to care for the sick around her.

Mrs. Miler was a strong woman most of her life. Her last sickness was short and death unexpected. On Monday she felt ill although she was not confined to her bed. On Friday she was somewhat worse and on Saturday evening she suffered for a short time, when from the failure of heart, the Death Angel took her spirit to her God. She was faithful in prayer for her children and her great desire was to see them consecrated Christian workers.

Besides her children, she leaves 25 grand-children and 4 great-grandchildren. May those left to mourn their loss, follow the example she tried so hard to set before them.

The funeral services were largely attended and were conducted at Union chapel by Arthur M. Growden, pastor of the Christian church, whose text was Rev. 22:14.
“Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have a right to the Tree of Life and may enter through the gates into the city.”
