William Bonar was born in Stark county, Illinois, in 1842, and came with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa, in 1853. He enlisted in the 3rd Iowa cavalry in 1861, served four years as a true soldier. He was married to Miss Armstrong in 1882. He leaves a wife and three sons, Clarence, aged fifteen; David thirteen; William twelve.

Of his father’s family two sisters survive him, Miss Ava Bonar, of Lexington, Nebraska, who was present and Mrs. M.V. Nance, of Osceola. Mr. Bonar was formerly a member of the Christian church in Hopeville, Iowa. He gave evidence, in his last days that all was well with him.

Saturday the remains of Wm. Bonar arrived in Osceola, accompanied by his wife and eldest son, Clarence. Mr. Bonar died of consumption, at Helena, Missouri, where he and his family had moved from here a short time ago. The greater part of his life had been spent in Osceola and the family had many friends who grieve to hear the sad news. Mr. Bonar was an industrious, loyal and good citizen, a kind husband and father. The funeral was held at the Christian church, Sunday. Bruce Brown delivering the sermon, at the close of which the remains were interred in the Osceola cemetery.
