Edward Earl Homewood was born July 28, 1878, in Pleasant township, Union county, Iowa, the son of Sarah Louisa McClurg and Edward Homewood. He passed away August 6, 1956, at the Clarke county hospital, Osceola, Iowa, at the age of 78 years and 9 days. He had been in failing health for several months.

On April 15, 1903, he was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Rilea at the home of her mother, Mrs. Hannah Rilea. To this union was born one son, Earl Rilea Homewood. He was engaged in farming and they have made their home in Pleasant township all their married life. They moved to the present home in 1909.

His parents, brother Harvey, sister Susie Daniel, and two infant brothers preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Jennie; his son, Earl and daughter-in-law Lois, of Des Moines; his grandchildren Edward of Iowa City, Mrs. Lois Marie Werner of Murray, Roger and Russell who are in the Coast Guard somewhere in the Pacific, and Harley who makes his home with his grandparents; two great-grandsons, Phillip and Joseph Werner; his oldest brother, Albert; his sister, Mary; his three nieces,, Marian Miller, Maude Colthorpe, and Helen Brugger, and many friends.

His entire life has been spent in Pleasant township where he was a good and respected neighbor. He will be greatly missed by his family as well as his friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at Hopeville Methodist church, Aug. 9, 1956, at 2:00 o’clock, with the Reverend Harris officiating. Music was by Mrs. Donald Booth and Mrs. Bradshaw, accompanied by Mrs. Albert Strubhar. Burial was in Hopeville cemetery and under the direction of Coen’s Funeral Service.
