Thomas Trumbo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Trumbo of near Liberty, who was killed in action in France on September 24, was with the Third army, under General Patton, it has been revealed by a letter he had written just a few days before his death.

Thomas, who was 21 years old, entered the service in March 1943. He trained in Louisiana with an armored force for 14 months and arrived in England last June. In August he went across the channel to France.

Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Jean, a teacher in the Osceola schools and Ruth, of Des Moines.

Thomas Trumbo

Funeral services for Pfc. F. Thomas Trumbo, who died in action in France Sept. 24, 1944, were held Sunday afternoon from the Webster funeral home, with the Rev. Gene W. Carter and the Rev. Lester L. Moore officiating. Burial was in the Liberty cemetery.

Frank Thomas Trumbo was born in Holdrege, Neb., May 29, 1923. He was three years old when he came with his family to Clarke county, Iowa, to live on a farm in the Liberty community where he spent the greater part of his life.

He was a member of the Liberty Sunday school and church. He was graduated from New Virginia high school with the class of 1941.

Thomas entered the service of his country at Osceola March 24, 1943, being stationed at north Camp Polk, La., with the Eighth Armored division. In June 1944, he was sent to England, and in August to France.

About the tenth of September he was transferred to the 318th Infantry regiment, 80th division of the Third Army. Thomas was killed in action near Nancy, France, Sept. 24, 1944.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Trumbo, his sisters, Ruth Trumbo and Mrs. Jeanne Miller, and his brother-in-law, Francis Miller.

Other surviving relatives include Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Marquis and family, E. H. Marquis, Mr. and Mrs. William Trumbo, R. H. Trumbo, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Waugh.
