Remington Frank Siefkas (1863 - 1949)

R.F. Siefkas, pioneer Clarke county farmer, died in Des Moines Friday. He was 85 years old. Services were held from the Webster Funeral home in Osceola Sunday, November 20, with Rev. Lloyd Latta of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Murray cemetery.

He came to Clarke county with his parents and had lived on the same farm in Knox township the greater part of his life.

Remington F. Siefkas, son of Frank and Etta Siefkas, was born near Quincy, Illinois, December 2, 1863 and died November 18, 1949 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 16 days. He moved to Sweet Home, Missouri with his parents when a small child and after a few years came to a farm home near Lacelle.

On March 13, 1889 he was united in marriage to Johannah Henrichs, who passed away March 26, 1933. To this union was born 4 children: Minnie and Anna at home, Henry, and Mrs. Nellie Maffett. Besides the children he leaves 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, John and William Siefkas. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 3 brothers Albert, Jake and Bert and 1 granddaughter, Myrna Siefkas.

Mr. Siefkas was one of the pioneer citizens of this community residing on this farm 73 years coming here when 9 years old. He often recalled the days of his childhood, following the plow his father broke the prairie soil or going to Osceola or Murray across country as there were few fences in those days.
