Mrs. Eleanor J. Bennett
Eleanor Jane Wright, daughter of James and Isabella Wright, was born in Sullivan Co., East Tennessee, May 27, 1827; and died at her home 5 miles north east of Murray April 10, 1907, aged 79 years, 10 months and 13 days. The deceased was one of a family of 13 children, 8 brothers and 5 sisters, of which number 2 are living; Geo. Wright of Chillicothe, Mo., John Wright, of Indianola. She was united in marriage to Lemon Bennett,in her native county and state July 30, 1851. To them 7 children were born, 3 sons and 4 daughters. All grew to manhood and womanhood except one, Angelica dying in infancy. There are living today, Frances M. Little, Mary I. Browns, Jas. S. Bennett of Great Falls, Montana; Ella M. Guyton of Murray and Lemon Bennett of the old farm; John F. Bennett died August 14, 1905.

The family resided for a time at Fall Branch Tenn., then came to the city of Chattanooga, Tenn. in 1856, where they resided a year. Soon after this they went to Kings Porte where Bro. Bennett was professor of an academy for awhile. The deceased came to Indianola, Iowa in 1861, where her husband was principal of the schools for a time; then moved to Des Moines where they resided five years, Mr. Bennett being the city assessor two years. The next move was to Prairie Grove, Clarke Co., Iowa, in the spring of 1867; in the following fall to the farm 5 miles northeast of Murray, where her remaining days were passed.

She was converted in her native state and united with the Baptist church in her twenty-first year. On coming to this county, she and her husband, went into the organization of the Murray Baptist church, of which she continued a faithful and true member till the death summons came.

The funeral was conducted in the Baptist church at Murray Friday, April 12th. The church was filled with kind neighbors and sympathizing friends. The services were conducted by the writer, a former pastor and an old time friend, assisted by Pastor O. P. Sooner. The Ladies' Aid society of the Baptist church supplied a quantity of carnations decorating the casket. Deceased was a humble Christian, a faithful wife, a kind indulgent mother and a true neighbor, respected by all; but her life, work is done and she is at rest. The remains were laid to rest in the Murray cemetery by the side of her husband, who died Jan. 12, 1892. May the sweet comforts of God's grace and spirit be given to the children and grandchildren.
F. Edwards.
