Sarah Lafferry Rilea after a week of intense suffering from injuries received by a fall, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Chew, near Hopeville, January 27, 1904.

Grandma Rilea was eighty three years, three months and twelve days old. Her husband, Joseph Rilea to whom she was married April 24, 1839, preceded her to their Heavenly home five years ago.

Five of their eight children yet remain – Mrs. John Chew, Mrs. N.A. Carlton, Mrs. H.J. Landis, Mrs. L.B. Miller and Mrs. Louis Lent. She was converted and united with the M.E. church when twelve years of age and lived in that relation to God and the church all her subsequent life. Seventy-one years of beautiful Christian living. Her children and all coming generations have a precious inheritance in the memory of her excellent Christian character and life. A richer treasure cannot be left to posterity.

The funeral services were held at Gregg Chapel east of Hopeville by Rev. Wilkins, of Grand River and interment took place in the Gregg cemetery by the side of her husband.
