GLADYS IRENE CARSON

Gladys Irene Carson, daughter of Jeff and Harriett Alberta Hanlin Carson, was born Aug. 26, 1910, at Woodburn and died July 16, 1999, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She was 88.

She attended the Osceola Schools. As a young woman, she lived and worked in Chicago as a telephone operator. Later she worked in the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. She did domestic work for many families after moving to Des Moines where she lived until 1979, when she entered the Carlisle Care Center.

Mrs. Carson was affiliated with the United Brethren Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin R. and Harley Carson; two sisters, Verda L. Carson and Lela, in infancy.

Survivors include her niece, Carolyn Lingle and her husband, Darrell Lingle, of Osceola; sister-in-law Marie Carson of Osceola; great-nieces, Patty Hostetler and her husband, Dan Hostetler, of Grand River and Beth Lingle of Osceola; great nephew, David Lingle of Fort Collins, Colo.; great-great-niece, Claire Lingle of Fort Collins and great-great nephew, Hayden Hostetler of Grand River.

Graveside services were July 19, at Ottawa Cemetery in Clarke County, the Rev. Neville Clayton officiating.

Arrangements were by Kale Funeral Homes.

Memorials may be made to the Carlisle Care Center.
