A message was received in Urbana this morning stating that Elias Kirby, an old resident of that city, had died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jake Williams, at Assumption, where he had been residing for several years. The remains are to be brought to Urbana Sunday morning arriving at 10 o’clock via the I.T.S. for interment at Yearsley cemetery, east of Urbana.

Mr Kirby was born in Ohio in August 1821. He came to this county with his father, Elias Kirby, in 1830, the family settling in the district north of the “Big Grove,” in what is now Somer township.

Mr Kirby was married twice, and as a young man moved to Iowa. He returned to this county forty-five years ago and since then had lived on farms north of Carley church, occupying one farm, known as the “Stevens place,” twenty-one years.

Following the death of his second wife, about 11 years ago, he went to Assumtpion to live with his daughter. Children surviving are Amos Kirby of Iowa, Misses Jane and Evelyn, Mrs. Mattie Tweedy and Mrs. Eliza Williams, all residing at or near Assumption, and Mrs. Ellen Hendricks.

Lincoln Saddoris, an uncle of the decedent, went to Assumption today to accompany the remains here. They will be taken direct from the car to Yearsley cemetery.

Obituary from Findagrave memorial is the following reads:

Elias Kirby was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, August 21, 1821 and died at his home in Assumption on the 25th of February 1915 at the age of 93 years 6 months and 4 days.

While he was still a boy the family moved from Ohio to Attica, Indiana. After a short residence there they moved to Champaign County, Illinois and it was here Mr. Kirby grew to manhood.

In 1842 he was married to Evelyn Johnson with whom he spent three short years, she dying in 1845. To them was born one child who died in infancy. In 1850 he was again married to Lucinda Kirby who for 53 years was a helpmate indeed, she dying in 1903.

To them were born seven children: Evelyn and Jane who during the declining years of their fathers life remained with him in the home ministering to him with loving fidelity; Amos of Maxwell Iowa; Mrs. Ellen Henricks of Alva , OK; Mrs. J. F. Tweedy of Mowequa and Mrs. J.E. Williams of Assumption.

In early life Mr. Kirby gave his heart to God and united with the United Brethren Church and until death he maintained his loyalty to both. His extreme age made him well aware that he had not long to remain in this world and he awaited the summons from the homeland with expectation. He was confined to his bed but two days during his last illness and from the first he seemed aware that he was soon to go to be with the Christ whom he loved and served long. To his children he said that he soon would be with his Saviour. On Thursday evening of last week he died in the triumphs of a living faith, assured that the heavenly Father had reserved for him a crown of eternal life, and a building of God eternal in the heavens.
