MABEL V. HAYS

Mabel Hays, daughter of Robert and Stella Sutton Bevard, was born Sept. 21, 1915, at LeRoy, and died Nov. 26, 2004, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She was 89.

She attended LeRoy School. She spent most of her life in the Osceola area.

Mrs. Hays was a telephone operator for 25 years before working as a radio dispatcher for the Clarke County Sheriff's office. She was married to Roscoe Saunders Hays on July 29, 1967, in Missouri.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola. Mrs. Hays was a very generous and caring person. She enjoyed baking and decorating all sorts of cakes, playing cards, crocheting, working crossword puzzles in the daily paper, and cooking family dinners for her grandkids.

Mrs. Hays was preceded in death by her husband; son, Farrell Vaughn; grandson, Brad Crawford; son-in-law, Bill Webster and three brothers, Clair, Dean, and Clyde Bevard.

Mrs. Hays is survived by her two daughters, Monna Webster of Kansas City, Kan. and Delores Luce and husband Robert Luce of Osceola; six grandchildren, Sandra Corkrean and husband John Corkrean of Winterset, Craig Luce and wife Vicky Luce of Osceola, Debbie Kuhns and husband Gene Kuhns of Earlham, Dennis Vaughn of Iowa Falls, Janet Vaughn of Des Moines, Tom Vaughn of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Lucille Welcher and Garland Ramsey of Osceola; 15 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Nov. 29 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Philip Coe officiating. Organist was Loretta Carper and soloist was Chuck DeVos. Musical selections were Beyond the Sunset and Good Night and Good Morning.

Casket bearers were George Robert Paul, Don Bedwell, Tyler Luce, Brent Stanford, Dennis Vaughn, John Bakley, Bobby Luce, Quincy Snell, Cris Norgood, and Tom Vaughn. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
