A pioneer woman of Clarke county died last Friday, Mrs. Catherine Kyte, after rounding out a full century of existence and over a year more. She was a typical woman and pioneer, gentle, strong, kind, motherly and sensible.

She began to fail on Monday, last week, and was perfectly conscious that the end of life was at hand. She met it without fear and repining, her senses clear to the last breath. It was a painless natural death. Her son, F. M. Kyte, hands us the following data of her life. The funeral occurred on Saturday, Rev. D. Shenton officiating.

Catherine Colglazier was born In Ohio in 1793, and moved with her parents to Washington county, Indiana when about fifteen years old. She was married to Lewis Kyte in 1816, and they lived together until his death which occurred in October 1851. She then with a part of her family moved to Clarke county, Iowa in 1852 where she lived until 1888, when she moved with her daughter to Weldon, and lived there until her death, July 27, 1894.

She was one of a family of nine children, five sons and four daughters, all of whom lived to be at least seventy-five years of age. Two of her sisters are still living one at the age of ninety-seven living in Missouri and the other younger living in Garnet, Kansas.

She is the mother of eleven children, eight sons and three daughters all of whom she raised to manhood and womanhood except one, a son who died in infancy. Four of her sons are still living and the three daughters. Two daughters and one son live in Indiana, two sons and one daughter live in Iowa, the other son in Missouri; the oldest being seventy-eight years old, the youngest being fifty-five years old. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Jamison, since 1864 to the time of her death.
