Ruth Edna Page, daughter of Arthur Newton and Pearl Dew Babbitt Mateer was born September 1, 1910 in Havelock, Nebraska and passed away May 21, 1996, at Osceola Leisure Manor in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 20 days.

She married Hubert Foster Page on December 23, 1937, and they became parents of two children, Dennis and Leroy.

Mrs. Page lived in the Osceola area most of her life. In addition to being a farmwife and a mother, she worked at Moore’s Shoe Store and cooked for the Clarke County Hospital, and Murray and Osceola Senior Centers.

Her favorite pastimes were music, bowling, crafting and playing cards with family and friends.

Mrs. Page served as county chairwoman for the American Cancer Society for many years and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Osceola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hubert; her son, Leroy in 1958; five brothers, Clayton, Everett, Gene, Earl and Dale Allen and a sister, Gladys, in infancy.

Mrs. Page is survived by her son, Dennis Page and his fiancée, Laurie Crawford, of Osceola; three grandchildren, Amy Henshilwood of Orlando, Florida, Chad Page of Jacksonville, N.C. and Beth Page of Knoxville, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Bradley and Britney Henshilwood of Orlando and Chelsea Page of Jacksonville; three sisters-in-law, Almeda Reish of Newton, Louise Cooper of Spirit Lake and Mary Mateer of Osceola; a brother-in-law, Burdell “Jake” Page of Chariton; mother-in-law, Flossie Page of Leon; many nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Page were May 24 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Fred Rohlfs officiating. Pennie Gonseth, organist, accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang Ivory Palaces and How Great Though Art.

Casket bearers were Darrell Mateer, Lewis Mateer, Larry Page, Tom Pollard, Jim Pollard and Craig Mateer. Interment was in Maple Hill.
