Levi Cochran

James Levi Cochran, son of John and Martha Mason Cochran, was born in Clarke County, Iowa August 19, 1883, and departed this life October 17, 1972, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at the age of 89 years, one month and 28 days.

He farmed all his life in Clarke and Decatur counties, where he operated a portable feed mill for 17 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Jacinth Chapter No. 443 AF & AM at Weldon. He was also a member of the Christian Church at Woodburn.

On November 23, 1902, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth (Bessie) Lee and to this union six children were born. They would have observed their 70th wedding anniversary in November.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Donald; two sisters, Corda Stacy and Gladys Tallman. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bessie of Van Wert; daughter, Leota Johnson and husband, Charlie of Weldon, Iowa; son, Clayton Cochran and wife, Midge of Brazil, Indiana; daughter, Hope Paschall and husband Chet of Grinnell, Iowa; daughter, Doris Douthitt and husband Jay of Duncan, Oklahoma; daughter, Betty Redmond and husband, Jim of Van Wert, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Webster-Kale Funeral Home Friday, October 20, 1972, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Lyle Dunham officiating. Burial was in the Woodburn cemetery.
