“Cliff Carr, 85, Rites Sunday – Clifford Warren Carr, 85, longtime resident and businessman in Osceola died at the Clarke County Public Hospital Friday, February 10. Services were held from the Osceola United Methodist Church Sunday February 12 with the Rev. Clifford Haider officiating at the 2 p.m. rites. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Clifford Warren Carr was born May 20, 1898 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, son of Alexander Carr and Jessie Henly Carr. He attended schools in Oskaloosa and Albia and on March 3, 1925 was married to Ruth Tabler in Newton, Iowa. One daughter was born to this union. He was in the retail oil business and operated the Tabler Oil company Conoco station for 51 years. He was a resident of Osceola for 55 years where he was active in the American Legion Davis Pence Post #69; a 50-year member of Osceola Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M.; a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Shrine; and a lifetime member of the Clarke County Historical Society. He was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church. He was a member of WWI Barracks and a former Rotarian. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Osceola; daughter Janice Gardner and husband Jack of Fairmont, Minnesota; granddaughter Gayle Gardner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; granddaughter Julie Gardner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandson Todd Gardner, student at St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minnesota; sister Helen Rudkin, Ramsey Memorial Nursing Home in Des Moines; nephew, Jack Rudkin of Webster City; other relatives and a host of friends.
