Services For Pioneer Clarke County
Settler, John Wilson Adams, Monday

Funeral services for John W. Adams, pioneer settler of Clarke county, were held at the Methodist Protestant church here Monday, conducted by Rev. David E. Arnold. Interment was made in Maple Hill cemetery.

John Wilson Adams, son of Wm. and Nancy (Milligan) Adams was born near Monmouth, Illinois, December 4, 1846. Departed this life at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. C. Leonard April 22, 1938 at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 18 days. He moved with his parents to Iowa in the year 1864. They lived one year in a little log cabin near the home where the family settled, just east of Osceola, Iowa some four miles. Thus having spent almost his entire life in Clarke county.

He was married to Eliza Jane Dennis, March 4, 1874, who died in 1885. To this union were born, Belle dying in infancy, Rose Mae and George Albert, who survive.

Father Adams spent most of his life on the farm where he was content to live and labor. Was converted to Christ in the year 1886 and united with the M. E. church at Colon, Mich., later transferring his membership to East Chapel, uniting as a charter member of the organization, counting himself a member until his death.

He leaves to mourn, the children mentioned above, three brothers, Alonzo and Millard who live in Osceola and Andy of Milo, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Charity Neff of Osceola and Mrs. Rachel Haines of Topeka, Kansas; four grandsons and a host of more distant relatives and friends.

A few from the community attended the funeral of Wilson Adams in Osceola, Monday afternoon. Mr. Adams and his children Bert and Rosa were former residents of our community and many friends extend sympathy.
