Obituary.

Died, at Osceola, October 16, 1890, James Garst. He was born in Pennsylvania about 50 years ago, and moved to Iowa in 1854. He was married twice, and five children, three of whom survive, was the fruit of both marriages. The funeral was from the Christian church, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which body he was a member. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. L. McCray, who spoke words of good counsel to the living, and consolation to the relatives. The remains were buried in the Prairie Grove cemetery, where others of the family lie buried.

While deceased was not one of the most active and pushing of men in a business way, he was yet industrious and economical in his habits; but he was scrupulously honest, and was not known to have an enemy on earth. Before his death he declared that he had nothing to regret in his life, and that is more than many can say. For a year or more prior to his death he was unable to work, and when death overtook him he was entirely destitute. Friends and neighbors of deceased will see that his two daughters, aged about fifteen years, are placed in homes surrounded by Christian influences, where they may become useful and respected women. The son is a young man, and has employment in Denver, Colorado, with a large mercantile house.
