Died at County Farm.

After being bed-ridden since last November John A. Bruffey, a pioneer citizen of Clarke county, passed away at the County Farm Wednesday evening of the past week at the age of 79 years.

The father of the deceased settled at Ottawa in Jackson Township back in the 50's and after his parents died John became the owner of the old homestead, the 80 now owned by George Evans just across the way from the old Ottawa church. At one time John was in good circumstances. By bad associates and otherwise poor management he lost his farm. Later he engaged as a live stock shipper at Woodburn where he did a large business. He had a reputation of being a capable buyer and an honest dealer. He was successful to the extent that he retrieved a portion of his wealth.

He was married and has a son and a daughter somewhere in the west. His wife died about twelve years ago and was buried in the Ottawa cemetery. The deceased is survived by one brother who resides on the Pacific Coast.

By request of the deceased, J. S. Carson of Woodburn, who had known him since their boyhood days, directed the details of the funeral.

Brief funeral services were conducted at the cemetery by the Rev. Mr. Clark of Woodburn who for many years was a neighbor and friend of the deceased. Interment was made in the Ottawa cemetery.
