Hazel Belle DeMunbrum was born in Selma, California, April 30, 1890, and departed this life at her home in Woodburn, Iowa, September 17, 1909, aged nineteen years, five months, seventeen days. At Woodburn on February 12, 1908, she was married to W. L. Marquis who with an infant daughter, Maxine, is left to mourn. She also leaves a father, Rev. DeMunbrun of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, a sister, Mrs. Jessie Rudrow of Adel, who was with her during her sickness and a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends who deeply sympathize with the bereaved family and whose kind ministrations during her sickness and in the performance of the last sad rites go far toward lightening the burden of sorrow. At the age of fifteen years Mrs. Marquis professed faith in Christ, at Clarinda, under the preaching of J. W. Abel and united with the United Brethren church. She was active in Sunday school and church work in general, for one so young. She was a lover of music and her winning ways endeared her to all with whom she was associated.

The funeral services were held from the M. E. church at Woodburn, Saturday, September 18th at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. Cronk of Des Moines preaching the sermon, after which, interment was made in the Woodburn cemetery.

Among those who attended the funeral of Mrs. Hazel Marquis at Woodburn last Saturday were Wm. Martin and family, Chas. Sweeney and family, C. L. Funck and wife, J. B. Marquis and family, Clarence Marquis and family.
