Milton J. Cochran, son of Benj. F. and Lydia Cochran, was born in Wapakoneta, Allen County, Ohio, September 28, 1828, and died July 12, 1899, aged seventy years, nine months and fourteen days. He was united in marriage to Miss Christena Ellsworth, April 3, 1851. Six children were born to this union, five of whom survive their father; Vernon, Bascom E., Sanford W., Pascal E. and Clara Brisben, all of this vicinity. A son John W., died at the age of thirteen years. The deceased moved from his Ohio home to Knox county, Ill in 1856, where he enlisted in Co. I, 83rd Ill Inf. in August, 1862 and served until the close of the war. In 1876 he settled on a farm in Troy township, this county, where he lived until 1888, when he moved to Murray, where he spent his declining days. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church at 1:30 Friday. A large number of friends and relatives and nearly all of the old soldiers of Murray and several from Osceola were present. Rev. Douglass preached the sermon. The pulpit was beautifully decorated with flowers and flags. The friends have to sympathy of the entire community.
