John Charles Edgington

John Charles Edgington, son of Leonard and Ann Eliza Edgington, was born in Marion county, Iowa, August 26, 1872, and passed away at his home in Jamison, Iowa, May 8, 1936, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 12 days.

He lived his entire life in and near Jamison with the exception of six years spent in Marion county and two years in Nebraska. His eyesight began to fail about twenty years ago and he had been totally blind for the past eight years. Nevertheless, he continued to do his work around home until his health began to fail two years ago. From that time on he had been tenderly cared for by his two sisters.

He was always of a sunny and cheerful disposition and took a great interest in the affairs of the community and the church. Even after his eyesight was gone he never failed to recognize an acquaintance by his voice. He was a great friend of children and young people and they were one of his greatest enjoyments.

He leaves to mourn his departure, two brothers, Richard of Steele City, Nebr., and William of New Virginia; two sisters, Mary and Sarah, both of Jamison; eight nieces, one nephew, a number of great nephews and nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 10, at 2:30 p. m. from the Jamison church, conducted by Rev. Clarence Moore of New Virginia. Interment at the Jamison cemetery.
