Died From Injuries

Jamison Farmer, Crushed By
Tractor Aug. 28, Died Mon.

Merton L. Barnard, 61, died at Clarke county hospital Monday of injuries suffered in a tractor accident Aug. 28. He was pinned under a tractor at his farm and suffered a badly crushed chest at the time.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Webster funeral home, with Rev. LeRoy Moore of New Virginia officiating, and burial will be in Jamison cemetery.

Merton L. Barnard was born April 7, 1893 in Clarke county, the son of Theodore and Mary Wells Barnard. He was educated in the county schools and at Highland Park college in Des Moines.

On Feb. 10, 1918 he was married to Floy Cellman at Jamison. They had five children, all of whom survive with the widow.

He had lived in the Jamison community for 59 years. He was a member of the American Legion and had been a township trustee and township clerk for 25 years.

Survivors are his widow, two sons, Frank and Eldon; three daughters, Jean Henrichs, Marion Akes and Margaret Moore; mother, Mrs. Mary Barnard; brother, Rollin; two sisters, Hazel Barnard and Agnes Leahy; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother Waldon and three sisters, Nina, Marguerite and Ailene.
