OBITUARY

Ananias Lantz
was born in Preston county, West Virginia, April 20, 1842 and died June 30, 1904, aged sixty-two years, two months and ten days. He was married to Miss Anna Niles March 14, 1867 and to this union were born ten children, Howard, William, Drusilla, Lizzie, Ola, Arlington, Jacob, George, Ernest and Mae, all of whom with the companion live to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father.

Mr. Lantz united with the Lutheran church when fifteen years of age and continued a member of the same until he with his family removed from the old home and settle in Iowa in 1881. Finding there no church of his chosen denomination he joined the M. E. church at Liberty and the last recollection which many of his friends retain of him is as he there witnesses for his Lord. When he was called home one more veteran dropped from the ranks, he having served his country through the civil was from 1862 to 1865.

Mr. Lantz was a man of singularly mild and gentle manners and although his residence near Liberty was on comparatively recent date he was widely and favorably known, living at peace with all the world as nearly as a mortal can.

All through the summer of 1895 he suffered extreme illness and since that time has been an invalid. Paralysis prevented his speaking during the last two days of his life but it had been his custom to talk to his children of Heaven and he often expressed a desire to be there. During the past spring his health failing more than usual he told his companion that he was only awaiting the summons and was ready and willing to go.

The funeral services took place at the Liberty M. E. church conducted by Rev. Morris and assisted by Revs. Fye and Carson, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Liberty cemetery.
