Services were held in the St. Bernard's Catholic church here Monday for Jeremiah Cronin, 78, well known Clarke county farmer, who passed away at New Virginia last Saturday morning.

Jeremiah, son of Michael and Julia Cronin, was born near Galesburg, Illinois on June 9th, 1864 and departed this life at the home of his daughter in New Virginia, Iowa, Saturday morning, June 27, 1942, at the age of 78 years and 18 days.

He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of 9 years and settled at Woodburn, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth McHale in Chariton, Iowa on January 7th, 1892. To this union were born eleven children. His wife and two children preceded him in death.

His entire life was spent in farming in Clarke county, except for a few years spent in Missouri and Nebraska.

He was a kind and loving father and an ever helping neighbor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing 6 girls and 3 boys and 22 grandchildren. His daughters, Mrs. Marie Cotter of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Veronica Cotter and Mrs. Lucille Davidson of Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Clare Isaacson of Osceola; Mrs. Theresa Garner and Mrs. Helen Wilson of New Virginia: sons, Charles A. Cronin of Cincinnati, Ohio; Thomas J. Cronin of Louisville, Kentucky; Paul Cronin of San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers, John Cronin of Garden Grove and Pat Cronin of Los Angeles, Calif. Four sisters and one brother have preceded him in death.

On the morning of June 29th requiem mass was said by Rev. Father Davidsaver at St. Bernard's Catholic church in Osceola, after which interment was made in St Mary's cemetery at Woodburn.

We wish to express our deep appreciation for the many acts of kindness and the tokens of sympathy received during the time of the illness and death of our father, Jeremiah Cronin.

Note: The obituary states his day of birth as the 9th and the headstone is engraved with the day of birth as the 8th.
