Died at his residence in Fremont township Clarke county, Iowa, April 25, 1888, Mr. George Harlan, aged sixty-six years and eleven days. He had been in poor health for more than year but was confined to the house only about three weeks before his death.

George Harlan was born in Darke county, Ohio, April 14, 1822. He was married to Julia Harlan September 8, 1841, and came to Clarke county in the fall of 1854, where he lived until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Harlan had born to them four sons and one daughter, three of whom and Mrs Harlan are now living to mourn the loss of a faithful and devoted father and husband. Mr. Harlan made a profession of religion at the age of twenty-one years and joined the Christian church and remained an earnest, consistent member of the same until his death. His funeral, April 29th, was largely attended, the funeral sermon being preached at his late home by Rev. J.A. Morris, and his remains were buried in the beautiful cemetery near his home. (Union Chapel)

(The cabin he built was taken to the county fairgrounds where it stood for many years. It was later moved and is now at the county museum on Highway 69 south of Osceola, IA.)
