Jeremiah Harrison Stansbury (1841-1926)

Jeremiah Harrison Stansbury was born February 16, 1841, in Monroe county, Indiana, and died February 5, 1926, aged 84 years, 11 months and 19 days. On June 16, 1864, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Roberts at Osceola, Iowa, who preceded him in death in 1923.

To this union were born nine children, five boys and four girls, five of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. Those living are Sarah Gurnea of Stockton, California, Troy of Canton, Oklahoma, Garfield of Woodburn, Oregon, and Beulah Serfling of Eugene, Oregon. One daughter, Mina Barnhill, died at Fresno, California, in 1916.

In the year of 1854, at the age of 12 years, with his father, Wm. Stansbury, they located in Clarke county, Iowa, taking land now where Leslie, Iowa is located. When 19 years of age, 1861, he volunteered his service to the Union army, belonging to the 6th and 13th Missouri Vol. Cavalry, serving three years and eleven months.

At the close of the war, he entered land one-half mile north of Groveland at $1.25 per acre, where he resided until 1892, selling and buying seven miles northeast of Osceola, residing there until 1905, then moving to Osceola and afterwards to Selma, California, where he has since resided. He was a member of the Christian church.
