Roger Gilbert Kearney (1941-2007)

Roger Gilbert Kearney was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Osceola to
Gilbert and Edna Williams Kearney He passed from this life on
May 29,2007, at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville. He was 66.

Roger was the sixth of eight children and grew up on a small farm five miles north of Osceola. He attended country school, Fremont No. 9, through eighth grade and graduated from Osceola High School in 1959.

As a youth he attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Osceola. He
accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized at the age of 16. He had a deep faith in God and has read the Bible through many times.

After graduating from high school, Roger enlisted in the Army and
served from August 1959 through July 1962. After his discharge, Roger came back to Iowa and went to work as a machine operator for the C.B. & Q. Railroad. Later, he moved to Minneapolis, Minn., and attended Dunwoody Technical Institute where he started his life career as a tool and die maker, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Roger was a quiet person with a great sense of humor. He was
an avid reader, loved -music and traveling and was very proud of
his Irish heritage. During his lifetime, he traveled to all the continental United States, as well as several foreign countries. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, old cars and steam engines. Roger was especially fond of time spent visiting with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Edna
Kearney; sisters, Lorraine Jensen and Marian Maloney; and his
nephew, Leon Davis.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Kearney and wife Nancy
of Prosperity, Pa.; sisters, Lorna Jones of Las Vegas, Nev, Coleen
Roush of Indianola, Dowell Kearney of Portland, Ore., and Alice
Davis and husband Melvin of Murray. Also surviving him are
seven nieces, 13 nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were June 25, 2007, at Kale Funeral Home in
Osceola, Pastor Brian McCracken officiating. Karen Linhart provided musical selections "Danny Boy," "Wayward Wind," “Bridge Over Troubled Water," "In The Garden" and "Precious Memories."
Military rites were by Herndon-Oehlert Post No 157 American
Legion.
Interment was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County.
Arrangements were by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
