After a brief illness from paralysis, John Bryant (colored) passed away at his home in northwest Osceola August 26, 1910, aged 71 years, 6 months and 2 days. He was born in Parrish, Mo., March 24, 1839, and grew to manhood there.

In 1864 he was married at Decatur to Mary Clanton and the next year they located in Osceola. To this union there was born eight children, five sons surviving the father to comfort the widowed mother.

Funeral services were held at the A.M.E. church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor assisted by Rev. Carpenter of the M.E. church. An immense crowd attended the last rites attesting the high esteem in which he was held.

John Bryant was a man of upright character, industrious, accommodating and of good business judgement. He held and deserved the confidence of everybody who knew him and was a most excellent citizens. His sons are men of high character and standing. Frank, who resides in this city, Sam and Charles of Des Moines, and Ray of Minneapolis, were present at the funeral. George of Oakland, California, was unable to be present.

The bereaved wife has the sympathy of the entire community in her hour of sorrow.
