March 23, 1899, Page 5-"Net" Mendenhall, the charter occupant of the county poor house died last Friday at 1 o'clock of quick consumption. She was seventy-one years of age, and had been in the poor house for the last twenty-five years. She was the first inmate of the institution. Her Imbecility was caused by taking an overdose of laudanum when five years of age. Her mother gave it to her during illness to give her sleep, but the child was thrown into convulsions, resulting in permanent impairment of mind. Mrs. Carder, of near Murray, a sister and her only near relative, was present at the funeral.
