Forster, Mary Jane White Foster – 1840-1918

Mary Jane White was born in Waynesville, Ohio, May 7, 1840, and departed this life Feb. 20, 1918, aged 77 years, 9 months and 13 days. She was married to David Foster in 1860. To this union were born four children, L. P. of Colorado, Mrs. Harriet Nichols of Chicago, and Allen and Saddie both of whom preceded her in death.
On April 2, 1878 she was united in marriage to F. H. Forster of Kansas. To them were born two children, Olie who died in infancy and Fred of Mingo, Iowa. She and her husband came with their family from Kansas to Iowa in 1880 and settled on a farm in Jackson Township, Clarke County, where they lived until six years ago when they moved to Woodburn.
The departed was an earnest and faithful Christian all of her lifetime. She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in early childhood. She has been a member of the Woodburn Methodist Episcopal Church since 1881.
She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, three children, ten step children, several grandchildren, two brothers, Seth and Rev. John A Whitte (sic) of Ohio, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Episcopal Church at Woodburn by Rev. V. W. Henderson, the pastor, at eleven o’clock Friday morning, Feb. 22. Interment was in the Methodist cemetery.
Those from a distance who were present at the funeral are Mrs. Hattie Nichols of Chicago, Mr. Lewis Forster (sic) of Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Forster and family of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Elmendorf of Lacona, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Gray and two daughters of Lacona, Iowa. Mrs. Gladys Terril of Chariton, Iowa, Mrs. Nettie Gibson of Des Moines and Mrs. Eva McComas of Osceola.
